Last week the Cleveland Plain Dealer broke the story that Boehner's PAC is under investigation by the FEC. Basically, every kind of shady special interest-- from the coal and oil barons to organized crime and gambling operations, not just donated to Friends of John Boehner but gave more than legally allowed.
Last week we looked at the persistent Beltway rumors that Boehner has had enough and wants to retire and spend the rest of his life drinking and golfing. If right wing groups have their way, he won't get the chance. They want to defeat him at the polls in 2014.
A few days ago we reported that Pelosi admitted she doesn't want to be Speaker again. She's tried to put the toothpaste back in the tube but... well, that never works. But you know who else doesn't want the job? Boehner's done.
You probably heard about how poor old doddering McConnell stumbled right into a right wing trap, tarring all the Kentucky teabaggers as "fringe," which, of course they are. But Republicans aren't supposed to talk that way about what's now their party's base. Local Tea Party leaders immediately blasted McConnell in a very public and very damaging way:

Boehner's job-- trying to herd the fractious, racist, unpatriotic teabaggers in his own party-- is so thankless and stressful that there are rumors he's contemplating retirement. Since the rumor originates with Politico, they may not be entirely credible, although they insist that "the rumors are real, and they’re bouncing from Capitol Hill to K Street.
Yesterday Andy made it official... he isn't running for the western Ohio seat now hold by John Boehner. Below is the letter he sent DWT making his announcement. It appears, at least at this point, that Boehner will once again have no opponent for 2014. Unless Steve Israel wakes up and realizes the value of running someone against the unpopular leader of the obstructionist Republicans in the House.
