Saudi Arabia To Behead 14 For Participating In Anti-Government Protests

Saudi Arabia, the Gulf kingdom ruled by an absolute monarchy and key United States ally, is planning to behead 14 men for participating in anti-government protests after what Amnesty International called a “grossly unfair mass trial.”
“By confirming these sentences Saudi Arabia’s authorities have displayed their ruthless commitment to the use of the death penalty as a weapon to crush dissent and neutralize political opponents,” Samah Hadid of Amnesty International said.

new report from human rights group Amnesty International today is harshly critical of the tactics used by Iraq forces and their allies (i.e. the US) in the invasion and occupation of the ISIS-held city of Mosul, saying they flagrantly violated international law and might amount to war crimes.

Turkish police rounded up eight leading human rights campaigners, including the head of rights group Amnesty International in Turkey, Idil Eser, at a meeting on an island near Istanbul, media said on Thursday.
They had gathered at a hotel on Buyukada Island, just south of Turkey’s largest city, when they were taken to a police station on Wednesday, the Hurriyet newspaper said. It was not clear why they were held.

Loujain Alhathloul is a Saudi women’s rights activist and a social media figure. She was ranked 3rd in the list of Top 100 Most Powerful Arab Women in 2015.
A Saudi women’s rights activist was detained by authorities at an airport in the kingdom’s Dammam, rights group Amnesty International said on Monday.
Loujain al-Hathloul was arrested for a second time on Sunday for her work in challenging Saudi’s strict laws on women, Amnesty said.
