Even if Trump loses the presidency and the Democrats hold the House, McConnell will still be able to block a progressive agenda if the GOP holds the Senate— or even a strong minority in the Senate. One screw up would be not being able to win back the Alabama Senate seat they narrowly lost to Doug Jones when Trump named Jeff Sessions Attorney General and then Republican voters nominated extremist and— worse for some GOP voters— child molester Roy Moore to replace Sessions.

We'd been looking for someone to take on Joe Crowley for a decade, so I knew Digby and Amato would agree that backing her was a good idea, even if her chance to actually win was practically non-existent against Queens Democratic Party Machine boss and "the next Speaker of the House." I told her we'd endorse her and help her raise money for the campaign but that she needed to work on name recognition and then take on Crowley again in 2020.
The weekend Paul Krugman was on fire after Republicans cluelessly went on the warpath against Alexandria Cortez again, this time because of her 60 Minutes tax hike for the rich proposal. His NY Times column, The Economics of Soaking the Rich, started by asking "What does Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez know about tax policy?" and then answering... "A lot."
During his dismal 60 Minutes interview, Señor Trumpanzee hinted strongly that he's going to get rid of "Mad Dog" Mattis after the midterms. Why after? Well, it's not likely to be a popular move and it will remind voters that Trump's dysfunctional regime is as chaotic as it is corrupt. McConnell and Ryan begged him to pretend things are stable until after the election-- for all their sakes.
US President Donald Trump went on 60 Minutes and vowed “severe punishment” on Saudi Arabia if it turns out that missing Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
Trump told 60 Minutes that so far Saudi Arabia has denied playing a part in the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi, but says the case is being investigated.
Trump has sat down in an interview wit CBS News to discuss the missing journalist, issuing a serious and stern warning to the Saudi Kingdom.
