Democratic strategists couldn't be happier. Trump-- imagining that the national electorate is a reflecting of one of his hate rallies in red states-- is doing everything he can to turn next month's midterms into a referendum on him. Every poll shows most Americans-- a majority, not a plurality-- feels his unfit for the job.
When politicians don't have anything to say about issues that will appeal to voters they go negative in the hope that they will disgust voters enough to discourage election day participation. That's what the GOP is doing now. They read the same polls the rest of us do and they know the only way to win is to keep Democrats and independents away from the voting booth next month.
I talk to congressional candidates all day. Sometimes I am amazed that I can get any posts done for my blog at all. One question candidates are always asking me is if I can get Bernie (or Elizabeth Warren) to campaign for them in their districts. Invariably the answer is no. It's not like Bernie calls me up and says, "Hey dude, remember PS 197 in Brooklyn?
This blog hasn't exactly been Andrew Janz campaign headquarters. He's way too conservative for us and I can't see him being a good member of Congress... no matter how hard I try. And I do try. He's running against-- arguably-- the worst member of Congress, worse than just a Trump rubber stamp; Devin Nunes has been an active participant in Trump's machinations and criminal behavior from the campaign right up 'til now.
On Sunday, DWT went out on a limb-- not just making a random prediction about how many seats would flip red to blue but doing what so few pundits ever do-- predicting which seats would flip.
Texas' 13th congressional district, the panhandle, is the reddest in the country. The huge district, which stretches from the Oklahoma panhandle and the New Mexico border 450 miles east to the Dallas exurbs, includes Amarillo and Wichita Falls. The population has been declining or stagnant for 3 decades and the PVI is a horrifying R+33. Although Trump didn't do as well as Romney had (80.2%), it was close-- 79.9%.
Trump's a liar and a fraud. If you took a nap for a decade, watch the video above would help you understand what he's all about. Will that hurt the Republicans' chances next month? Maybe... but there are plenty of other things that should do that as well. As we've been reporting, the GOP has continued pulling the plug on their own incumbents, leaving them on the side of the road to die alone-- well, not quite along... there are dozens of Republican non-incumbent candidates to keep them company.
