Last primary of the cycle pits progressive Angel Taveras against Gina Raimondo from the Republican wing of the Democratic Party in Rhode Island-- September 9Tuesday will see primaries in Maine, Nevada, North Dakota, South Carolina and Virginia but only two states have races that pit progressives against conservatives, Virginia and South Carolina.
There were a lot of Democrats who won tough primaries last Tuesday, but there was only one that caused an orgy of twitter ecstasy from the DCCC: Petey Pie, Steve Israel's flawed New Dem who would like to get into Congress so he can help the Republicans cut Social Security benefits for retirees while increasing his perceived value as a lobbyist, when he goes back to his original profession.
Millions of Democrats are eligible to go to the polls tomorrow and put their collective foot down and stop the rise of the Republican wing of the Democratic Party. There are primaries in New Jersey, Iowa, Montana, and California where the two wings are in deadly conflict. In most cases, most Democrats aren't even bothering to learn the issues or understand that the primary tomorrow is as important-- or in many cases-- more important than the November election. Far more Democrats will not vote tomorrow than will vote.

The states with races where there's nothing important going on, on the federal level at least, for progressives: Alabama, Mississippi, New Mexico and South Dakota.
Steve Israel-- still pushing fellow Blue Dogs at the expense of real Democrats This morning the DCCC announced that they had reserved $43.5 million in broadcast and cable television time in 36 congressional districts-- 19 to defend incumbents (+ an open blue district) and 19 held by Republicans.
I hope you read VA-08 resident Pachacutec's very detailed rundown of the candidates running in his northern Virginia district. Although he found more than one well-qualified candidate, he came to the conclusion that Patrick Hope was the best candidate overall and the best candidate to beat the heavily financed conservative Establishment Democrat, Don Beyer. That was back in April. Today marked 3 weeks out from the election and the race has had time to develop.
If House Democrats were absolutely certain that it was imperative that they not gain any seats in November-- and that they just could not leave anything to chance-- there would be no better plan of operation than appointing Steve Israel to chair the DCCC.
Steve Israel, as we mentioned earlier in the month, failed again. He always fails. He fails at everything.
