On June 1, I met with a delegation of North Americans going to observe the Syrian elections on June 3. I hope to be in Damascus shortly, if possible to likewise observe Syria’s historic election. Below is a brief bio of the delegates and my conversation with these anti-war, justice activists.
Paul Volcker wants a new Bretton Woods agreement to replace the old one which Nixon broke in August of 1971 when he refused to redeem dollars for gold at $35 an ounce. Henry Kissinger took us onto the Petrodollar standard in 1973 after the Arab-Israeli war. The Gulf oil monarchies agreed to sell oil only in dollars. These dollars bought US Treasury bonds and helped fund America’s perpetual budget deficit and to pretend it had also solved its trade imbalance. Some have mistakenly accused America of fighting Oil wars. We have been fighting wars to defend the Petrodollar.

Even when I’m not “looking” for stories to share from Syrians, they come to me. Sitting at the sea, a young man a few metres away began talking with me after he saw my Syria wrist-band. I asked a few general questions, and then he let loose on the hell that is life in Halab (Aleppo) with the foreign insurgents. Millions of Democrats are eligible to go to the polls tomorrow and put their collective foot down and stop the rise of the Republican wing of the Democratic Party. There are primaries in New Jersey, Iowa, Montana, and California where the two wings are in deadly conflict. In most cases, most Democrats aren't even bothering to learn the issues or understand that the primary tomorrow is as important-- or in many cases-- more important than the November election. Far more Democrats will not vote tomorrow than will vote.
