WASHINGTON – US will deploy more troops on the territory of NATO members in Eastern Europe to assist them in the preparation of similar elite units. The US European Command (Eurocom) reported that the decision was dictated by the necessity to provide additional support to the Eastern European allies after the crisis in Ukraine and Russia’s actions in Crimea.

I’ve been plagued with kidney stones recently and I’m afraid I’m in no shape to write today: but these things tend to pass rather quickly (no pun intended!) so I’ll be back at the usual stand on Friday.

The booknotes series of podcasts on Fire in the Minds of Men: Origins of the Revolutionary Faith, by James H. Billington continues as Aaron reads more of his notes. Another "birth pangs" quote pops up, this time from Karl Marx. The revolutionary fire moves from Europe eastward into Russia as the nineteenth century begins to wane.

I was heartbroken that so many of my friends-- almost entirely male-- refused to even consider Marianne Williamson in her congressional bid. It wasn't even entirely sexist, since some of them were willing to consider the entirely conventional political hack Wendy Greuel. Instead it has to do with Marianne's spiritual perspective, which I found not entirely unlike Martin Luther King's or Mahatma Gandhi's spiritual perspectives.

Less than 24 hours after Ukraine’s new president Petro Poroshenko announced his determination to retake Crimea from Russia, US Admiral Cecil Haney confirmed that the US Air Force had deployed two B-2 stealth bombers to Europe to conduct military exercises. The addition of the multipurpose B-2, which is capable of delivering nuclear weapons, is intended to send a message to Moscow that the United States is prepared to provide backup for Ukraine’s fledgling government and to protect its interests in Central Asia.

As one of the preconditions to authorizing close to $300 million in aid, the United States is pressuring El Salvador to purchase genetically modified seeds from Monsanto instead of non-GM seeds from local farmers.
According to Sustainable Pulse, a website covering developments related to genetically modified organisms and sustainable agriculture, the US will reportedly withhold $277 million in aid through the Millennium Challenge Compact if El Salvador refuses to purchase GM seeds from the biotech company Monsanto.

In one of the trials, 80 children became ill after they were accidentally administered a vaccine intended for cattle.
Pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline uncovered the experiments after it purchased one of the labs involved.
