Businesses are primarily concerned with their bottom line. Energy consumption, however, usually accounts for a large share of corporate expenses. And so there is a strong incentive for businesses to cut their energy consumption.

(CJ Opinion) — As attempts to evict Julian Assange from the Ecuadorian embassy in London get more and more aggressive, we are seeing a proportionate increase in the establishment smear campaign against him and against WikiLeaks. This is not a coincidence. The planned campaign to remove Assange from political asylum and the greatly escalated smear campaign to destroy […]
(ANTIWAR.COM) — In new comments, President Trump is claiming NATO “was essentially going out of business” before he came along, and now will be “strong again.” He added that this is all because of him and his “strong tone” at the recent summit. Trump was declaring victory over the summit earlier this month, with claims that the nations had […]
Trump and his supporters purport to be seeking, at the end of the game, universal free trade, a world in which all countries have abandoned tariffs, quotas, subsidies, and other government intrusions in international exchange. In Wilsonian terms, they claim to be waging the trade war to end all trade wars. The idea is that by raising U.S. tariffs, they will induce other governments to lower and ultimately eliminate their own.
But if Trump and his trade advisers actually take this tactic seriously, they are deluding themselves.
Sputnik – 01.08.2018 President Trump’s offer of “no preconditions” talks with Iran’s comes as a surprise break from months of escalating rhetoric in the wake of his walkout from the landmark Iran nuclear deal. US President Donald Trump has apparently been hoodwinked by Saudi Arabia into believing that the kingdom will be able to make […]

(ZHE) — Stephen Cohen schooled prominent ‘Never Trump’ neocon and Council on Foreign Relations member Max Boot on CNN’s Anderson Cooper this week on the Trump-Putin Helsinki summit and general charges related to ‘Russiagate’. It’s worth watching especially as it underscores why recognized academic experts are rarely given airtime on the mainstream networks if their perspective lies outside the accepted media […]
People tend to have a strange blind spot when it comes to government. We—or a lot of us, at least—tend to assume the best of intentions from our government. Our fellow civilians garner suspicion, but our elected officials are somehow magically benevolent and altruistic. When governments misbehave and act violently, we tend to think about these actions in terms of warfare. And yes, in the 20th century alone, wars have killed around 106 million people. That's a lot and not to be discounted.

In the first hour I go solo and talk about the recent elections in Pakistan and Imran Khan’s rise to power. I talk about Khan’s political party and how they they were able to take 116 seats in Parliament and elevate Khan to Prime Minister. I discuss Khan’s colorful life as well. I also discuss my major takeaways from the election: why the military backed Khan, how Khan will interact with the Taliban going forward, and the complex relationship with China and their China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. I also address the question over whether Khan is Pakistan’s Donald Trump.
What if 2018 is akin to 2006? Back then, most people underestimated the possibility that easy money and Fannie-Freddie subsidies had created an unsustainable housing boom.
But even if we ignore that wild card, I can’t help but wonder whether Trump’s pro-growth policies and Trump’s anti-growth policies are resulting in a wash.
Following the 2014 Bundy Ranch standoff against the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) that carried out what amounted to a military invasion and seizure of cattle, Larry Wooten, a whistleblower from the BLM, wrote a [...]

New York Times publisher A.G. Sulzberger met with President Trump last weekend over his concern that the media and journalists may face violence because of Trump labeling them as the enemy of the people. Meanwhile, mainstream media has condemned, threatened, and harassed Trump supporters, which has resulted in a documented 538 violent attacks against them, which the media seldom mention. [...]
Georgia Democrat, Stacey Abrams, a former state representative, acknowledged that she owes more than $200,000 in personal loans, credit card debt, and IRS back taxes. She even admits that she did not understand that credit cards incur interest. In spite of this, she has gained strong popular within influential Democrat circles. [...]
In 2016, the Regional Council passed a plan that will cost half-a-TRILLION dollars! California raised the state's gasoline taxes to cover this plan. The projects being undertaken are very unpopular and that the Council is spending too much money on its own facilities while people are literally living in tents on the sidewalk just one block from their extravagant offices. It has now been well over 4 years since Malaysian flight MH370 "disappeared" shortly after it took off on the morning of March 8th, 2014 from Kuala Lumpur airport in Malaysia on a scheduled flight to China... Shortly after its take off, the plane suddenly veered off course and began a flight into the Indian Ocean only to disappear from radar and into the annals of the unknown..... There have been many speculations over these last few years as to what happened to flight MH370 including wild ideas that the pilots crashed the aircraft into the Indian Ocean on a "suicide flight"...
Once the central hub of Carthaginian power in ancient times, Algeria today is one of Africa’s most prosperous nations. However, prosperity these days comes at a heavy cost to the people of the world, and Algerians are mightily weighed down like most other nations by greedy oligarchs and vested foreign interests. Here’s a short take on the North African nation today.
What a tribute to the power of ideas! Root them in moral purity, advocate them with boundless courage, carry them forth with an optimism that proclaims victory is inevitable—that was the formula that stamped out the scourge of slavery in the British Empire.

How many hundreds of millions of dollars has the Koch network pumped into the Republican Party-- and continue pumping into the Republican Party ($400 million this cycle alone)? Their far-right "libertarian" ideas have become dominant inside GOP congressional circles, even if not among Republican voters. Now that Trump has taken over and is remaking the Party, the Kochs are understandably discomforted. And now...

The British Establishment wants to protect the expanded privileges it inherited from Margaret Thatcher’s neoliberal legacy but appears clueless about how to deal with an increasingly rebellious British public, as Alexander Mercouris explains.
Maria Butina has not been charged with being a Russian spy.
She communicated with her colleagues, mentors, friends, and family via Instagram, Twitter and email…very unusual communication patterns for a trained Kremlin spy.
Maria loved guns and loved the United States.
Irregardless of the logical conclusion that this was no spy (far from it, she was an ambitious Russian girl trying to make her way in America) mainstream media, left and right, continues to report that Maria Butina was a Russian red sparrow.
Hopefully the PTI’s victory will provide a new impetus to further the development of mutually beneficial ties between Russia and Pakistan.
“The crooked press.” “They are so dishonest.” “Fake news.” “Bad people.” Those were recent comments made by President Trump during a recent rally in Montana. In response, CNN is claiming victim status, as their reporter Abby Phillip shrieked, “So there’s your answer to the question of whether Trump’s rhetoric would change after 5 journalists were gunned down in Annapolis.”

During a meeting of industry leaders and government officials in Johannesburg, CEOs and senior business pundits stressed that emerging economies should reject unilateralist initiatives and work instead toward an inclusive agenda that promotes free trade.

While Moscow is depicted as an aggressive adversary, NATO surrounds Russia on three sides, has deployed anti-missile systems in Poland, Romania, Spain, Turkey, and the Black Sea, and has a 12 to 1 advantage in military spending. With opposing forces now toe-to-toe, it would not take much to set off a chain reaction that could end in a nuclear exchange.

Situations like Afghanistan and Syria are further polarizing an American electorate, with the Left openly declaring their need to be in power than on the right side of history.

It is no coincidence that some of the world’s most ardent imperialists are behind the cynical exploitation of one heinous murder — of British MP Jo Cox — to enable global mass-murder as well as human trafficking under the pretext of “ethical” and “humanitarian” intervention. Just over two years ago, the senseless and savage murder of British Labour Party MP […]
