Architect and urban planner Vanessa Keith shares a detailed vision for Earth impacted by climate change, an optimistic, hopeful look at survival on the planet. After covering many of the recent dire reports on the growing impacts of climate change, it's a pleasure to present a detailed plan for adaptation that may avoid extinction of some species, including humans.
2100: A Dystopian Utopia: The City After Climate Change is the result of a 5-year project led by Vanessa Keith.  This is a remarkable book, loaded with rich data and colorful graphs, artists' renderings of future cities, and detailed plans for rethinking human footprints on Earth.  It's part of a series of books from Urban Research.
Keith gives us a tour of the book, starting with graphic displays of the inhabitable and uninhabitable parts of our world in 2100 after warming of (only) 4-degrees celsius.  In simple terms, Canada and Russia will be the likely superpowers, as their territories will be the most livable. The first part of the book also looks at sea level rise, and extreme weather events like the recent winter tornado that slammed Alabama.
Keith is no climate denier; she's facing the facts by making plans to adapt--designing new "compact megacities" in temperate zones, and "extraction cities" which will produce renewable energy.  The book offers detailed plans for 14 cities worldwide, and we use Phoenix and New York as examples for discussion.
Keith offers any listener, anywhere, the opportunity to collaborate and share ideas.  She invites you to contact her at info@studioteka.com and to visit her website, here.  And your humble hosts asks listeners to facilitate contacts with Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) so that we can get this remarkable book to them for inclusion in the Green New Deal.
