183: The War On...A Clockwork Orange

"Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose." -Alphonse Karr
Translation: The more it changes, the more it’s the same thing

Pursuing a topic that I wish was less relevant...Cory, Matt and I discuss the political and cultural reaction to the Stanley Kubrick film, A Clockwork Orange, based on a book by the same name, written by Anthony Burgess. Please be patient with this show.

Society's decision-makers, opinion-manipulators and their loyal followers frantically search for scapegoats when deeper problems manifest in an immediate crisis or tragedy. I believe they do this to avoid looking at culture, government, traditions, parenting, institutions...and most importantly, the self.

Authentic, meaningful examination is just too overwhelming, compared the to ease of blaming youth, permissiveness, too many guns, not enough guns, violence in film, foreigners, video games, the corrupting influence of reading novels, not enough medication, witches, lack of socialized medicine, music, the absence of prayer in schools, not enough school, the New World Order, too much freedom, etc...

Topic 1: Discussion of the film
Style, Meaning, Easter Eggs, Technique, etc...

Topic 2: Context, Britain at that time (1971)
Liberalization vs Tradition

Topic 3: Reaction to the film
And the relevance to today
