It was not the first time I had heard about US soldiers dying in the Middle East; thousands of them have died there in the past 16 years. But when I heard the news of Sgt. Moriarty’s death, I went numb. The circumstances of his death surprised me but I was also moved to reflect more deeply on what his death means to us back here at home.
