The US Senate voted unanimously on December 1 to extend the president’s authority to impose sanctions on Iran for another decade. Despite the fact that many restrictive measures have been suspended since the deal came into force, the vote would ensure that Washington can quickly snap back the sanctions if Iran violates its obligations under the agreement.
