Thanks to you we will have more environmental destruction, resource waste, death, family destruction, ethnic cleansing and weaponized refugees. You have sold the NATO agenda well. You have promoted the expansion of Israel. And Sykes Picot 2.0. I can't do these things... I can't serve the elite agenda while trying to not participate in it. When Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last traveled to Washington, for a state visit in 2013, President Barack Obama praised him for launching peace talks with Kurdish separatists and leading his country into a new era of economic prosperity.Mr. Erdogan can expect a very different reception when he returns this week for the Nuclear Security Summit.Mr. Obama has turned down Mr. Erdogan’s request to join him for the inauguration of a Turkish-funded mosque in Maryland, and the U.S. president has no plans for a formal one-on-one meeting with his Turkish counterpart, who is a vital ally in the fight against Islamic State, U.S. officials told The Wall Street Journal.
Clearly the US does not see Erdogan as an ally any longer. As has been stated here so many times, for so long now.
The White House is instead expected to have Vice President Joe Biden meet with Mr. Erdogan.Senior U.S. administration officials said the decision not to meet Mr. Erdogan while he is in Washington shouldn’t be taken as a slight because the two presidents met in November at the Group of 20 summit in Turkey, and spoke by phone in February.
“The president has been in such regular contact with few other world leaders,” said a senior U.S. administration official. “When it comes to the NSS, there is not a robust [bilateral] schedule, so it’s not as if Erdogan is being excluded.”
Delegations from 51 nations are expected to attend the summit, which begins Thursday. Mr. Obama has only one planned one-on-one meeting—with Chinese President Xi Jinping.Turkey is at the center of the fight against Islamic State, the struggle to end Syria’s civil war, and the global refugee crisis, making Mr. Erdogan a key partner for Western leaders.Mr. Erdogan has alienated some allies by overseeing a crackdown on domestic critics and waging a new fight with Kurdish insurgents. The allies’ need to work with the Turkish president has tempered their public criticism.
Except WaPo is lying, it was the Kurds that ended the ceasefire. It was the PKK that reignited the fire.
“This is one of the least bright spots for Mr. Erdogan’s foreign-policy agenda, said Soner Cagaptay, director of the Turkish Research Program at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. “He took a stellar personal relationship with the U.S. president and look where it is today.”The U.S. and its allies need Mr. Erdogan’s help in clamping down on Islamic State extremists leaving Syria and containing the migrant crisis stoked by the war in Syria.Related

Turkish officials have been trying for months to lay the groundwork for a meeting in Washington with Mr. Obama.
Mr. Obama once said he counted Mr. Erdogan among his closest allies. The two men would talk regularly, and Mr. Obama hosted Mr. Erdogan for dinner when he and his family came to Washington in May 2013. At the time, Mr. Erdogan, then serving as Turkey’s prime minister, had just launched historic peace talks with Kurdish separatists. Mr. Obama called for deeper economic ties when the two leaders held a Rose Garden news conference.
Two weeks later, Turkish police launched a violent crackdown against protesters trying to prevent construction of a mall in Istanbul’s Gezi Park, sparking criticism from the White House. Turkey embarked on a new campaign to stifle dissent.
In December 2013, Turkish police arrested dozens of people in a political-corruption probe that threatened to reach Mr. Erdogan’s door.Mr. Erdogan responded to the investigation by accusing a former ally, Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen, of overseeing the creation of a parallel state.Turkey has targeted individuals and businesses linked to Mr. Gulen, who lives in (self-imposed) exile in Pennsylvania, including the country’s largest newspaper. Hundreds of Turkish journalists who have criticized Mr. Erdogan have been forced from their jobs. Human-rights groups and press-freedom advocates have accused Mr. Erdogan of using the feud to clamp down on his critics.
When Mr. Biden traveled to Istanbul in January, his meeting with journalists critical of Mr. Erdogan upset the Turkish president and his allies.

Biden: "Last week, he denounced as "dark, nefarious and brutal" more than 1,000 signatories of a declaration that criticized Turkish military action in the southeast"
"More recently, reforms have faltered and Erdogan has adopted a more authoritarian style of rule. (I've read those same memes "authoritarian/dictator/Hitler wrt Assad, Hussein, Gaddafi, etc)
"In an apparent rebuke, Erdogan told Biden on Saturday that he expected sensitivity from Turkey's allies and that they should avoid statements which may equate to support for those trying to hamper Turkish efforts to fight terror, presidential sources said"
