Moscow: “Long Live Syria & Russia”

Citizens in Moscow chanted “Long live  Russia and Syria” today as Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro attended a ceremony – naming a street after Hugo Chavez.
“Now I feel that Chavez will always stay with us”, said Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro at the opening ceremony of the new Moscow street.
“He had been to Moscow ten times and never felt like a stranger,” Maduro continued. “His infinite love for justice and equality surpassed the borders of Venezuela where he was born. At the age of 21 he was able to foresee the new Russia. Chavez always remembered that Moscow was the barrier which prevented those who wanted to conquer the world”.
According to the Venezuelan Embassy, “the move is seen as a tribute by Muscovites to the memory of the late Comandante Chavez, who maintained a close relationship with the Russian people.”
The length of the street, currently named Proyektiruemy Proezd 5509, is 170 meters and contains a public garden.
The decision to rename the street was announced in late June at a meeting of the Moscow government.
