Syrian government forces on Tuesday entered a major military airbase in the northern province of Aleppo, marking the end of a two-year-long siege by Daesh militants, agencies reported. An AFP photographer on the scene said a group of Syrian soldiers and their allies, including Lebanese and Iranian militiamen, broke through Daesh lines west of Kweiris airbase in Aleppo and reached besieged government troops inside.

Pro-Syrian government forces have been trying to reach their comrades inside the base for two years. The liberation of the base comes as Syrian troops continue their offensive to take the region from rebels and extremist militants, Reuters reported. Russian warplanes have also been conducting airstrikes in the region

Take note: Their are no Kurdish "allies" mentioned because the Kurds ally themselves with the enemies of SyriaUpdate! h/t jo6pac
