Wow, are some wild claims going around or what!? I've seen headlines in the 'alternative' media that leave me scratchin' my head? Where did this all come from? And so suddenly? As near as I can tell- based on multiple reports- Some NATO irregulars-brand ISIS- undertook a provocative action against Turkish soldiers:Note the very interesting reporting from Turkish Kurdistan: Ekurd.net

Turkey’s military and Islamic State fighters have exchanged fire over the Syrian-Turkish border, killing one soldier, Turkish media report.

The governor of Kilis province in Turkish Kurdistan said another two soldiers were injured when a border post was attacked from Syria.

Turkey responded with heavy weapons, reportedly killing one IS militant.

So, brand ISIS fighters fired ACROSS the border, striking and killing one Turkish soldier, injuring two others at their post. And Turkey responded with tank fire from across the border. I can't find any validating or corroborating reports at this time for tanks crossing into Syria? Tank fire

“Unfortunately, one of our non-commissioned officers has been martyred and two sergeants injured,” Kilis Governor Suleyman Tapsiz told Turkey’s Anadolu news agency. He added that the two wounded soldiers were in a stable condition. In response, Turkish tanks opened fire on IS-controlled targets inside Syria, Turkish media report.

Turkish soldier was killed and another wounded in clashes with ISIS across the Syrian border Thursday, a senior official said, days after a suicide bombing blamed on the extremist group killed 32 people.

"Turkish soldiers returned fire after shots came from the Syrian side of the border, from the region where Islamic State militants are. The clash is going on at the moment," the Turkish official said.

Local media reports said the clashes were close to the village of Elbeyli, east of the Turkish town of Kilis, and an area where the armed forces have sent reinforcements in recent weeks.

Turkish army returns fire on Islamic State after soldier killed

Ankara: Turkish forces returned fire on Islamic State fighters in Syria with artillery and tank shells on Thursday after a Turkish soldier was killed and two others wounded in a cross-border firefight.

As for the Turkish jets being scrambled because of this incident?

"Turkish jets regularly patrol the 900 km border with Syria"

My understanding of jets being scrambled is as a response to other aircraft in the vicinity.   Incirlik to be used by the US?  That's the latest claim in the main stream media. But. I've seen this one multiple times too.

Turkey has agreed to allow the U.S. military to launch air strikes against Islamic State militants from a U.S. air base in Incirlik, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing defence officials.

Local media in Turkey said an agreement was finalised late on Wednesday, but Reuters could not immediately confirm the report.

The White House said President Barack Obama and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan spoke on Wednesday, but it declined to say whether they had reached an agreement on the air base. The Pentagon also would not confirm the reports.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama and Erdogan agreed to "deepen" cooperation in the fight against Islamic State militants, but declined to comment on whether they had come to an agreement on Incirlik.

By the way, it appears another police officer was killed in Turkey.  Two ambushed. One died.

The policemen were patrolling in the Şehitlik district at around 3 p.m. when they were assaulted by a group of assailants who ambushed them. Two of the officers, Ali Karahan and Tansu Aydın, were wounded and taken to the Dicle University Hospital. Aydın died at hospital, while Karahan is currently being treated in the facility's intensive care unit.

So reminiscent of the early attacks in Syria. When on duty  police officers were targeted, repeatedly.A police officer was killed and his colleague critically injured in an attack by an armed group in Diyarbakır, Turkey.
