One Thing I Cannot Do

I draw no veil over the snail.
I admire its shell, the whirl and swirl,
And listen to my father tell
That snail is always boy and girl.
And even while I watch it munch
The greens that were to be my lunch,
I like the snail, but Oh, I fail,
Try as I might all day through,
There is one thing I cannot do –
I cannot hug a slug!
