NATO foreign ministers to discuss Ukraine crisis
The crisis in Ukraine will be discussed at the upcoming NATO meeting of Foreign Ministers.
As an alliance spokesman told Interfax in Brussels on Tuesday, “though Ukraine as such is not formally on the agenda of the Foreign Ministers meeting, we expect that Ukraine will come up in the discussions today on NATO partnerships.”
As reported, the NATO foreign ministers will convene at the alliance’s headquarters on December 3-4. Meetings of the NATO-Russia Council and the NATO-Georgia Commission will be held on the sidelines of the session.
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen told Interfax earlier that the NATO-Ukraine Commission would not meet for obvious reasons.

NATO foreign ministers to confer on Ukraine
NATO foreign ministers will confer on Ukraine during their upcoming session. An alliance spokesman said on Tuesday they expected the Ukrainian issue to be discussed even though Ukraine was not on the agenda. The NATO foreign ministers will convene at the alliance’s headquarters on December 3-4. NATO foreign chiefs to tackle Ukraine turmoil
Foreign policy chiefs of 28 NATO member countries are due to meet in Brussels today to discuss the ongoing unrest in Ukraine.
This came today in a Russian media report citing an undisclosed insider source who spoke from the alliance’s headquarters in Belgium.
According to the leak, Ukraine is not part of NATO’s official agenda, although the source said the current situation in the Eastern European country would be up for discussion at the debates on NATO relations with its partners.
NATO chief Rasmussen appeals for peace in Ukraine
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen appeals to all parties involved in current events in Ukraine to refrain from violence and the use of force at all cost, he said in an official statement on December 1.
“I appeal to all parties to refrain from violence and the use of force at all cost. Violence and force are not the way to resolve political differences in a democratic society. I urge everyone to proceed in accordance with constitutional and democratic norms,” the statement reads.
NATO fully respects all Ukrainians and the democratic ideals of the Ukrainian nation.
“I call on Ukraine, as the holder of the Chairmanship in Office of the OSCE, to fully abide by its international commitments to respect the freedom of expression and assembly,” the statement says.
As “many Ukrainians continue to show their strong support for their country’s closer relations with the European Union, it is the right of people everywhere to express their views in a democratic way,” Rasmussen says.
