What the United States Could Learn from Venezuelan Democracy

When the Venezuelan elections are held on May 20, much of the world’s media, trailing the U.S. Department of State, will have already denounced the elections as “non-democratic” before they have even taken place.
Mainstream media in the United States repeatedly called for early elections during the months of Venezuela’s violent guarimba protests in 2017. A State Department official said March 29 of last year that “President Maduro… should hold elections as soon as possible.”

Haley, Pence Convey US Message on Venezuela: Only Election Worth Holding is One that Results in Regime Change

WASHINGTON – As aggressive neoconservatives increasingly take the helm of the United States foreign policy establishment, Washington’s appetite for “regime change” has only grown.
The reinvigorated mood for intervening in the internal affairs of nations who don’t adhere to Washington’s dictates was on full display Tuesday as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley issued the demand that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro step down from office and refrain from holding elections May 20 that he is widely expected to win.

Venezuela starts bi-national bank with Palestine using cryptocurrency

Yesterday kicked off a two day diplomatic visit between the leaders of Venezuela and Palestine.
The first item on the agenda was the signing of an agreement to create a bi-national bank to fund infrastructure, technology, and industry between the two countries.
Additionally, a business council spanning economic and financial matters was agreed upon.
The bank will be started off with 20 million Venezuelan Petros.

Pence Outlines Interventionist Plans in Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela

Ramping up interventionist rhetoric and policy against progressive governments in the region, United States Vice President Mike Pence said working for “freedom” in Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela is a priority for Donald Trump’s administration during a ceremony in which new U.S. ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Carlos Trujillo, was sworn in.
“We will stay by the side of those who long for freedom and we will confront their oppressors,” Pence said during the event in the White House.
