Tennessee Deputy Claims Intern Came on to Him; Recording Proves Otherwise

A Tennessee deputy taking a female criminal justice student for a ride-along claimed she came on to him throughout his 12-hour shift.
But the aspiring law enforcement officer said he came on to her, parking his patrol car on a dead-end street before telling her he wanted to ravage her body with kisses, asking for permission to fondle her breasts.
And the 27-year-old woman had the audio recording to prove it.
Hamilton County sheriff’s deputy Gene Myers resigned after an internal affairs investigation sustained one count of unbecoming conduct against him.

Tennessee Jail Guard Convicted for Beating and Kicking Hogtied Inmate

A Tennessee jury deliberated for less than an hour before convicting a Knox County jailer of assault and official oppression Tuesday after hearing evidence and viewing footage from the beating showing the corrections officer kicking the defenseless, hogtied inmate in the head.
Jurors were selected Monday afternoon for the trial of Nicholas J. Breeden, 37, who was fired by Knox County Sheriff Jimmy “J.J.” Jones two months after the incident on November 18, 2014.

Should Democrats Be Giving Thanks That Trump May Hire Harold Ford For Something?

Between 1869 and 1970, Tennessee only elected one Republican to the U.S. Senate. That Democratic dominance was flipped on it's head in more recent decades. The last Democrat elected to represent Tennessee in the Senate was Al Gore (1990). Today, every statewide official in Tennessee is a Republican, from the governor on down. The state House has 73 Republicans and 26 Democrats and the state Senate has 28 Republicans and just 5 Democrats.

The Affordable Care Act: A Litmus Test for American Capitalism?

There is a pressing issue in American health care that warrants at least a modicum of airtime from radio talk show pundits—a softheaded lot that continues to spin the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, as a textbook failure of state meddling in the marketplace.
Though they do not earnestly care, the free market mouthpieces on talk radio – who shamelessly misinform their listeners about the government’s role in economics – continue to wrongly attribute the turmoil surrounding Obamacare (in states like Arizona and Tennessee) to a much larger failure of government.

Rebuilding The Democratic Party In Tennessee-- Meet Khristy Wilkinson

You want to know how red Tennessee has become? Obama didn't even break 40% in 2012 against Romney. All statewide officials are Republicans, including both U.S. Senators. The congressional delegation is made up of 7 right-wing Republicans, one progressive Democrat from Memphis, Steve Cohen, and a very conservative Blue Dog from Nashville, Jim Cooper who could just as well be a Republican in terms of his voting record.

GOP Coming Apart At The Seams? Just A Little Trump Bonus

Tennessee Prison Guard Charged After Leaving Service Dog to Die in Car

A Tennessee prison guard was arrested for animal cruelty last week after leaving his service dog in the car for almost five hours with the windows rolled up and the air conditioner turned off.
Robert Strickland also left no water for Kilo, his K9 partner, as temperatures outside soared to 88 degrees, meaning that temperatures inside the vehicle reached 130 degrees – hot enough to cause hyperthermia in mammals, causing organ failure and death.
Strickland is a guard at the Hardeman County Correctional Facility, a privately owned minimum security prison outside Memphis.

Memphis Police Arrest Man for Recording Despite Departmental Policy That Says They Can’t (Updated)

Memphis police pounced on a man and arrested him for recording them in public despite a written departmental policy introduced in 2013 that made it clear they were not allowed to do that.
But the video shows they did not give that memo a second thought as they ordered him from the street to the sidewalk, then pounced on him when he stood on the sidewalk.
“As a matter of fact, the sidewalk is made to walk, not to stand,” the cop said as he ordered the man to keep walking away from the so-called “crime scene,” even though there was no crime tape establishing a perimeter.
