Elizabeth Warren has reintroduced the Student Loan Debt Bill that Republicans managed to filibuster last year when every single Democrat supported it, long with both Independents and even three Republicans. But 56 votes wasn't enough to break the GOP filibuster and it failed. At the time Senator Warren explained that "Rising student-loan debt is an economic emergency.
One of many ads for a Corinthian Colleges, Inc. institutionby Gaius PubliusThe first national student debt strike has been announced, by an offshoot of Occupy no less. This is a big deal.Public debt — debt as a result of government lending — is not killing this country. The U.S. government pays almost literally 0% interest on its debt, rolls it over constantly, is today reducing the deficit by large amounts, and many would argue, not spending enough, since every dime that leaves the government's hands goes into a private pocket somewhere.
From 1948 to 1973, hourly compensation grew instep with the productivity of the typical American worker. This means that, for about a generation’s time, economic prosperity amongst workers in the United States virtually reflected productivity. In the ensuing forty years, however, inequality exploded. The Washington Post has reported that income for the bottom 90 percent of American households has only nominally grown since 1973, when this group commanded nearly 70 percent of national income.
Elizabeth Warren's position on intolerable student debt isn't bad; it's a reasonable, moderate compromise. Cutting accruing interest from exorbitant rates meant to bolster banksters-- and government-- bottom lines, to market rates banksters pay to borrow is a good first step. But it isn't enough, not by a longshot.
The 26th Amendment to the Constitution is a simple one: "The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age." After being ratified by the 38th state legislature, North Carolina's, on July 1, 1971, it became part of the Constitution 4 days later on July 5. It has passed the Senate on March 10, 1971, 94-0, and the House March 23, 401-19.

Chairman #1, James Rood Doolittle of Wisconsin, didn't quite know what he was politically.
