Australia Ordered To Pay Refugees In Historic Settlement

Australia’s Victoria Supreme Court has ordered the Australian government to compensate hundreds of asylum seekers for illegally detaining them in squalid conditions and systematically subjecting them to inhuman treatment on the remote island of Nauru.
The final class action settlement, reached in a lawsuit brought by Slater and Gordon law firm, is estimated at US$56 million, according to Press TV.

ISRAEL — Israel Land Authority (ILA) officials, along with Israeli police and several bulldozers, raided and then demolished the Bedouin village of al-Araqib in the Negev region this week.

Israel Approves Construction Of 212 New Settlement Units In Jerusalem

The Israeli Planning and Construction Committee has approved the construction of 212 new settlement units in Pisgat Ze’ev and Ramat Shlomo settlements in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
The Israeli army radio said the project is part of a “large settlement plan to be implemented during the new US administration era”.

A United Nations rights expert issued a scathing report criticizing Israel’s policies Monday, just a few days after the world body withdrew a report that accused Israel of “apartheid” against Palestinians after U.S. and Israeli pressure.

UN Report Concludes Israel Has Established An ‘Apartheid Regime’

A new United Nations report accuses Israel of having established “an apartheid regime that oppresses and dominates the Palestinian people as a whole”.
The publication comes amid renewed debate about whether, through its settlement policy and rejection of Palestinian self-determination, the Israeli government is creating – or even has already created – a de facto “one-state”, which critics warn would constitute a form of apartheid.
It urged governments to “support boycott, divestment and sanctions [BDS] activities and respond positively to calls for such initiatives”.

(REPORT) —- Israel’s defense ministry announced plans on Tuesday to build 2,500 more settlement homes in the West Bank, the second announcement of new construction in the occupied territory since Donald Trump took office in the United States.
