As I've mentioned before, I got a threatening letter from Trump's attorney over a post we did on Melania's former career. I didn't think much about it and my own attorney told me to ignore it. Since then one member of the DWT staff told me he's been getting threats-- including to his family-- from Trumpist deplorables.
If someone wants you to send money to support Foster Campbell in Louisiana, they want you to waste your money. Trump beat Clinton in that state 58.1% to 38.4%. The top vote-getter in the Senate election that day-- there were 2 dozen candidates-- was John Kennedy (R). He took 25% of the vote. The second most votes went to Democrat Foster Campbell (17.5%).
I have to give credit to Schumer for firing the spectacularly failed DSCC chairman, his 2016 sock-puppet Jon Tester. I can't remember the DSCC ever doing worse in terms of money spent compared to contests lost. This should have been a cycle the Democrats won back the Senate and took at least 6 seats. Instead they won a measly two, New Hampshire and Illinois.
You may have read yesterday that new polls are showing Democrats surging in gubernatorial races. The Trump effect looks like it will be kicking in up and down the ballots, even in the Republican-friendly states like Indiana, North Carolina, West Virginia and Missouri, that have gubernatorial races this year.
A couple of weeks ago, WBUR did a poll for the 2018 Massachusetts Senate race, which may wind up as Elizabeth Warren versus notorious former Boston Red Sox pitcher, and outspoken Trumpist, Curt Schilling.
Because of the seats that are up in 2016, it is almost a foregone conclusion that the Democrats would take back the Senate regardless of the top of the ticket. Trump just makes GOP defense more difficult. Unfortunately, because of the seats that are up in 2018, it is almost a foregone conclusion that the Republicans will take back the Senate.
Some say the presidential push that Paul Ryan is making now is actually to set him up for a 2020 run after this year's GOP Dunkirk (see video above, which I found on Donald Trump's Twitter feed yesterday). After all, Bernie would be 80 when he starts his second term and Hillary would be 74.
