On KABC this morning, Ann Coulter addressed the massive morning drive audience about her former hero, Donald Trump, urging them to "Forget the fact that he's digging his own grave. The only national emergency is that our president is an idiot." We don't all agree why, but I think that a good 70% of the country would agree. So much has happened since she wrote In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome! in 2016. Earlier this morning someone asked Trump how much influence she's had over his policy decisions. "Ann Coulter," he babbled, "I don’t know her. I hardly know her.

There's no question that even in defeat there is inspiration to be found. Lucy McBath's 50.5% to 49.5%, 3,264 vote win against Karen Handel in Georgia was a happy ending last month-- a tie in Fulton County and a bigger Democratic win in DeKalb than the GOP win in Cobb-- but people who watch politics closely were jumping out of their skin as Carolyn Bourdeaux closed in on Rob Woodall even if her massive win in Gwinnett County fell a tiny bit short of his even more massive win in Forsyth.

I was shocked when the Florida Republican Party seemed so calm when Amendment 4 passed in November. It's going to probably mean a million new voters, many of then not especially GOP-friendly. Florida was one of only 4 states, the others being Kentucky, Iowa and Virginia, where convicted felons do not regain the right to vote after serving out their sentences.

"Trump," Samantha Bee explained on her most recent show, "is a sleazy con man who's been specializing in rich guy crime since the disco era. But law enforcement has always backed off or let him go with a slam on the wrist. There were his acts of racial discrimination, his fishy real estate deals, his bullshit university, his swindling of people who worked for him, and his violations of labor law, anti-trust law, gaming law, self-dealing law, anti-money laundering regulations of the Cuban Embargo...

Did Judge Kavanaugh take out his dick and wiggle it in Lindsey Graham's face? Or is Lindsey auditioning for the Attorney General job when Trump fires Jeff Sessions after the midterms? Raise your hand if you can't envision Lindsey derailing the Mueller investigation.

PAYGO doesn't preclude impeachment, but it does preclude Medicare-for-All. There is virtually no support among Democratic voters for PAYGO... other than, perhaps, some of Pelosi's big donors. And yet... in her top 3 priorities if the Democrats win the House in November... PAYGO. But no Medicare for All.

MI-08 is an iffy seat for a Democrat to win without a wave. But this cycle there is a wave. The R+4 district includes Democratic Ingraham County (Lansing), Republican Livingston County and then red parts of Oakland County. in the suburbs north of Detroit. Although Obama won the district in 2008, Romney took it in 2012 and Trump beat Hillary 50.6% to 43.9%. The incumbent, Mike Bishop, was majority leader of the Michigan state Senate but has been a hapless, anonymous backbencher in Congress, a Trump rubber-stamp and enabler.
