The Rohingya, Facing Turmoil in Exile, Welcomed Back to Myanmar With Words but Not Action

The English-language Bangkok Post reported on May 5 that the Rohingya refugees who return to Myanmar will be safe, according to the military there, as long as they stay confined to the camps being set up for them. Myanmar’s current commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, told a visiting delegation from the UN Security Council “there is no need to be worried about their security if they stay in the areas designated for them.”

Finland Court Rules Sex with a 10-Year Old Girl Is Not Rape

Finland’s Supreme Court upheld the three-year prison term sentence for the rape of a ten-year old girl by a 23-year old asylum seeker, Juusuf Muhamed Abbudin, whose country of origin was withheld. The man had sexual intercourse with the girl in the yard of a deserted apartment block. The court didn’t recognize the incident as rape, saying the girl wasn’t forced into the sexual act or overcome by fear. The judges ordered the man to pay the child $3,600. [...]

UAE Soldiers Threaten Yemeni Woman Into Denying Rape

Tahamah, Yemen – Last week, a Sudanese soldier from the Janjaweed forces (which are part of the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen) beat up and raped a Yemeni woman. These Sudanese forces have a well-documented history of using rape as a weapon of war.
As the war started in Yemen 2015 with the Saudi-led coalition’s military intervention, it became increasingly clear Sudanese soldiers (the Janjaweed) were targeting women and girls as a war tactic: “rape was a weapon of war.”

Teens Who Gang-Raped A Woman for Ten Hours Are Described by Sweden’s Media As ‘Victims”

After a group of boys brutally gang raped a woman for 10 hours, the Swedish media and social services characterized them as "victims" because of their ages, which ranged from 13 to 16 years old. A police spokesperson offered the excuse that the boys did not fully grasp their horrible crime.
