The thing I like about Steve Forbes (I call him Steve) is that he’s inherited a lot of money and, although he looks funny, he sure can pick winners. Along with the magazine that has borne his family’s name (or vice-versa) since 1917, he’s been a kingmaker as well as a prophet, despite the fact that, as Yogi Berra once put it, “predicting is difficult, especially about the future.” A marginally unsuccessful Presidential candidate himself, Steve knows all about Presidents and their problems.

The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee has approved a bill facilitating the provision of aid to countries ruled by post-coup military governments.
The bill would require the US government to determine when a democratically-elected government has been removed by force, Foreign Policy reported on Wednesday.

While congressional Republicans-- with their 9% job approval rating-- boasted about obstructing President Obama at every turn, the Administration was imploring Congress to extend unemployment benefits to the longterm unemployed.

Who recalls Rand Paul, possibly high-- no one knows for sure-- telling a bunch of incredulous Republicans last month that "we're going to win when we look like America.

Not afraid to speak truth to powerIgor Volsky and Judd Legum of Think Progress are trying to keep track of who's for bombing Syria and who's opposing it in Congress. And while they're getting a few specifics wrong here and there, theirs is one of the better "whip counts" available to the public right now.

House Armed Services Committee Chairman and founder/chairman of the congressional Drone Caucus Buck McKeon is always boosting wars on behalf of the arms manufacturers who are fianncing his career and his family's wealth. (They have a lobbying firm working with war industries.) His hatred and disrespect for President Obama, on the other hand, sometimes gets him in a muddle.

And now he has to spend his time upcountry, groveling to a bunch of racist teabaggers and morons in Greenville and in remote redneck bastions of Hate Talk Radio conventional wisdom like backward Oconee, Pickens and Cherokee counties.

You may recall, that we've been looking at the U.S.-backed coup in Egypt as a replay of the tragic U.S. coup against popular Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadeq in 1953. Wednesday Rand Paul brought up an amendment recognizing that the military overthrow of Mohammed Morsi was a coup and that, legally, the U.S. had to stop sending aid until democracy is restored.

Rand Paul was the only senator who voted against confirming James Comey as the new head of the FBI. Good for Rand! I'm glad he's got his wits about him despite the barrage of attacks and smears aimed at him by Establishment slob Chris Christie who's dead set on being the anti-libertarian Republican presidential nominee in 2016. Rand called Christie out for trying to make voters think he's somehow Rudy Giuliani or George W Bush. He's doing his best to paint Christie as the greedy, self-serving pig that he's always been.

By now you're probably well aware that GOP presidential rivals Chris Christie and Rand Paul are already slugging it out-- over national security and governing philosophy. It looks to be pretty ugly, as anything Christie gets involved in always turns out to be. But their disputes aren't just a matter of two ambitious Republicans trying to knock each other out of presidential contention.
