Several nations attended the annual Eastern Economic Forum this week in Vladivostok. The gathering shows the power of diplomacy and partnership for multilateral development. If only Western powers could learn.
All the more so because many of the nations attending the EEF have had long-running disputes: Russia-Japan, South Korea-North Korea, China-India, Mongolia-Japan, among others. But the willingness for these countries to engage and promote mutual development is a sure sign of the benefits of diplomacy and multilateralism working.

The Presidents of Russia and Turkey agreed to “normalize” the situation in Idlib, Syria, but the details as to how this would happened were not shared with the press and media, leaving many to wonder what this means for Turkey and its relationship with the US and NATO.

Trump stated openly that he would “certainly” invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to next G7 summit, which will most likely be held at his resort in Miami.

The Group of Seven (G7) self-declared advanced nations meet this weekend in France for their 45th annual summit. US President Donald Trump caused a stir ahead of the gathering in Biarritz when he remarked that Russia should be included in the format, thereby making it a G8 summit.
“Russia should be at the negotiating table,” said Trump, in a rare moment of lucidity.

Macron said he believed “Europe stretches from Lisbon to Vladivostok.” Macron the proceeded to blast US President Trump, saying that threats to multilateralism do not come from Moscow, but instead from Washington.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s June 27 interview with the Financial Times newspaper in London stating that liberal internationalism is now toxic and dying unleashed a totally predictable wave of outrage across the West. But Putin knew what he was doing and saying and of course he was absolutely right.
