A New York City police officer who downed several beers and whiskeys before getting into his car, driving down the street and stopping at a traffic light before stepping out and shooting two random strangers in another car was sentenced to nine years in prison this month.
Brendan Cronin told police he was “on the job” when he was arrested a half-mile away that fateful evening on April 28, 2014.

Cleveland Settles with Tamir Rice’s Family for $6 Million

The city of Cleveland will pay $6 million to the family of Tamir Rice, the 12-year-old boy shot and killed by police while playing in the park with a pellet gun.
The settlement comes with the stipulation that police did nothing wrong in shooting the boy within one second of pulling up to the park, even though he was not even holding the pellet gun at the time.

Federal Judge Allows Lawsuit to Proceed Against Texas Cops who Shot and Killed Passive Dog

A federal judge in Texas ruled in favor of a plaintiff in a case against an officer who admitted a man’s dog didn’t pose a threat before he shot and killed it.
Austin police officer Daniel Walsh said Shiner Bock, the dog, “was just kinda walking at me, he wasn’t, he didn’t, I mean . . .’before breaking off the end of his sentence,” an officer at the scene heard him say, according to the lawsuit.

NYPD Officers Charged for Assaulting Man Who Gave Directions to Notorious Cop Killer

An off-chance run-in with a man on the street asking for directions – who just happened to become a notorious cop killer – left a man fearing for his life after a pair of NYPD cops routinely harassed him before they brutally beat him last October.
But now those two New York City cops are facing jail time, according to the New York Times.

Ohio Police Officer Sentenced to 14 Years In Prison For Raping 16-Year-Old Girl

An Ohio police officer convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl was sentenced this week to 14 years in prison. Prosecutors recommended a 22-year sentence for former Lima, Ohio police officer Justin Bentz.
In a callous and ridiculous legal maneuver, Bentz used the defense that the under-age girl enticed him to have sex with her. Bentz also testified that he thought the girl was 21-years-old.

Baltimore police are investigating themselves after they were caught on video entering a home without a warrant, then brutalizing and arresting a teen resident who asked if they had one.
Police then searched the home for drugs, but didn’t find any.
In the video, Tionne Jones told the lieutenant blocking his front door from being shut to leave, and noted he did not have a warrant.
But the lieutenant stubbornly stood in the door, refusing to leave.
“I need to talk to the property owner,” repeated the lieutenant.
