Broadly speaking there are two views of the coronavirus pandemic: one is that this is the biggest threat to civilisation in a long time, one that is a lot more tangible than the nuclear annihilation with which we in the West were threatened during the Cold War. The other, extreme version, is that the whole thing is a gigantic hoax.
In part I of this series, we began to examine the present issue of Church closures in the West – Europe and the United States in particular, in response to the coronavirus pandemic and its accompanying illness, COVID-19. We tried to detach the hysteria and hype from this, and rather than make it a screed about the intrusion of the Dark Side upon the religious Christian right, we wanted to test current events against the following questions:
If a picture is worth a thousand words, what is a six-minute video worth? A lot. Left-wing grievance politics and racism is proving to be not just stupid. It is proving to be truly fatal. Just ask anyone with a bit of sanity who is living in the plague-stricken Manhattan today. Watching the coronavirus numbers soar there from day to day is evocative of Stephen King’s The Stand. Thank God that Life is not fully imitating that great – and frightening – piece of Art.
The recent outbreak of a new strain of coronavirus has been a hot topic of late, but the Draconian measures instituted by the Chinese Government and the steps being taken worldwide appear to be having the desired effect. Hopefully, in spite of all the hysteria, it will eventually prove no bigger problem than regular influenza.
