Despite the carnage and intense anger created by the US-led wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan, many prominent commentators and politicians have repeatedly pushed for the West to step up its intervention in Syria.
Throughout 2016, the UN High Commission for Refugees counted 3,936 airstrikes in Yemen. The newly released figures for the first half of 2017 show that previous figure, which covered an entire year, is already far surpassed, with 5,676 air strikes launched by the end of June.
Yemenis are being forced to choose between treating cholera and putting food on the table, a new report from Oxfam says, feeding an almost inescapable cycle of poor health and poverty.
There have been half a million suspected cholera cases in Yemen this year, the World Health Organisation reported earlier this week, with the country currently experiencing the biggest cholera epidemic in the world.
