Due to massive government subsidies given to farmers to grow genetically engineered crops in the past, U.S. food manufacturers and farmers are now being caught blindsided by the sweeping demand for non-gmo and organic crops. In a twist of irony, this is driving a massive increase of organic crop imports from nations that are largely free of bioengineering.
The FDA recently approved a non-browning, GMO apple. But the idea that consumers won’t touch an apple that has started to brown once it has been cut open is a ridiculous reason to justify the creation of GM Arctic Apples, given approval by the United States FDA without any concern for human health. Especially when non-GMO, non-browning apples already exist.
Approximately 74,000 cases of product made by Amy’s Kitchen have been recalled due to a possible listeria contamination. Amy’s is a non-GMO food maker we support, but purchasing their products at the moment could possibly result in contracting a fatal food-borne illness.
After being contacted by Amy’s regarding the food recall, the FDA has posted a press release about the recall that states:
“Non-GMO is More Profitable.”
This is the rising sentiment among farmers of the US as a confluence of factors urges them to become pro-organic. From falling GMO grain prices to a rising tide of public distrust of genetically modified ingredients, failing GMO traits, higher GMO seed prices, and the premium prices that people willingly pay for quality food over toxic junk, the conventional farmer is changing his tune when it comes to Big Ag practices.

Perhaps you remember a time not too far in our collective grocery-shopping past when regular grocery stores chains and places like Walmart had no idea what organic food was. Organic milk? Bread? Produce? They didn’t carry it. You had to find an obscure health food store or a farmer’s market if you didn’t live near a Whole Foods to find non-GMO, healthful food that wasn’t full of pesticides.
