A formal letter to the United States Department of Agriculture reports that scientists are being harassed and their research on bee-killing pesticides is being censored or suppressed by the Monsanto-infiltrated agency (the USDA). Surprised, anyone?
Boulder City, Colorado has just become the first locality in the state to pass a comprehensive resolution banning the use of bee- and butterfly-killing neonicotinoids.
Portland, Oregon has joined at least seven other cities in banning the usage of neonicotinoids, a class of insecticides that many scientists think is behind colony collapse disorder and the premature death and dysfunction of many bees and other pollinating insects. The ban applies to all city lands and will be enforced despite the opposition of some nearby farmers who claim neonicotinoids are critical for producing their food crops.
More than 100 businesses, including Clif Bar, Nature’s Path, Organic Valley, and Stonyfield, have recently sent a letter to Obama urging him to immediately suspend the use of bee-killing pesticides. The pesticides, known as neonicotinoids, have been repeatedly linked to global bee declines. We must halt their use in order to protect the nation’s food supply, environment, and economy.
