Trump beat Hillary in Mississippi 700,714 (57.9%) to 485,131 (40.1%). Basically, Hillary won the black belt counties in the western part of the state and Trump won the rest. She won Bennie Thompson's congressional district 64-35% and Trump won the 3 other congressional districts by around the same number, reversed. The statewide PVI is R+9 so those numbers were predictable.
Late Monday Thad Cochran's office announced that the 80 year old Mississippi Republican will resign on April Fools Day, due to rapidly deteriorating health. When Cochran first won his Senate seat in 1978 he was the first Republican to win any statewide seat in the state since Reconstruction. Gov. Phil Bryant will appoint an interim senator and then both seats will be voted on in November.
(ANTIMEDIA) Southaven, MS — In a case that has witness accounts contradicting those of the authorities, a Mississippi man with no warrant out for his arrest was shot and killed over the weekend after officers went to the wrong address.
Forty-one-year-old Ismael Lopez, who was asleep in bed with his wife when cops arrived at his door to serve a warrant, was a former mechanic who had lived in his Southaven home for 13 years.

A Mississippi cop with a history of child molestation shot himself to death after admitting to pulling a teenage boy over and groping his genitals last month.
Russ Robinson was hired by the Tishomingo Police Department in 2015 despite having been accused of molesting a teen while working at a grocery store years earlier.
The previous molestation was apparently captured on video, which led to Robinson resigning from the grocery store, where he worked part time.

But the Jackson Police Department is being sued by a former white police officer claiming she was fired because she is white.
