Israel has waged a long war against Palestinian history. Today, archives are sealed up, Palestinians are penalised in the law courts, the past is rewritten for the classroom, and reality is erased from the maps produced by digital behemoths like Google and Apple.
It is hard to reconcile how a government that sold out the civilian population of Palestine can celebrate the shameful letter Lord Balfour sent to Lord Rothschild. Although termed in language that presented itself as only offering a homeland to the Jewish people, with no discrimination to be brought against the indigenous Palestinian population, it is evident the agreement was always intended as a precursor to the establishment of Jewish Statehood in Palestine.
In just a decade, a Palestinian farming project, Canaan Fair Trade, has recruited 2,000 small-hold olive farmers in the West Bank. It teaches them how to grow crops that can withstand the privations of a hostile occupation; cooperate to raise prices and make a sustainable living; and access foreign markets as a way to bypass Israeli control.
The list of settler ambushes upon Palestinian women and children and unarmed men in the West Bank is endless. It grows day by day with more and more ferocity. In fact, there have been more than a thousand such documented attacks by rabid settlers on Palestinian civilians, although many more go unreported as futile. Of late the victims of settler violence have begun to include other Jews.
