Did you watch Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC last night? No? The segment you should have seen to make you feel better is above. Might as well not bother, unless you want some historical context if you were hoping that Jeff Flake was going to stall Trump's Supreme Court nominee. Early this morning, Ronald Hansen at the Arizona Republican brought us all back down to earth. Flake, as always, is-- first and foremost -- a right-wing bag of hot air. Don't look towards him for anything other than disappointment...
Incipient tyrants and fascists always seek to destroy media and the judicial system before their authoritarian assault begins in earnest. One would have to have been in a coma for the past 19 months not to have noticed Señor Trumpanzee's attack on the mainstream media. He's also been remaking the judicial system by rushing through the worst judges every nominated in recent history. And he's still on the attack against the judiciary.
It's incumbent on journalists to never give up on pointing out that Trump never opens his mouth without lying and attempting to manipulate the public. Most Americans know he's a liar; a recent poll found that only 13% of Americans consider Señor Trumpanzee honest and trustworthy. And yet... his job approval rating has crept back up into the 40s.

What does "off the deep end" mean exactly? The Urban dictionary's take: "To degenerate cognitively, to be in the process of having a mental breakdown, the process of going crazy." The Cambridge Dictionary is a little more formal and less emotive: "to get very angry about something or lose control of yourself." And Wikipedia had the best take of all, although, alas, unrelated to my purpose: Off the Deep End is the seventh studio album by 'Weird Al' Yankovic, released in 1992. Trumpanzee was yelling and screaming about fake polls again. It must be a conspiracy, though, because every poll from the right, the left and the nonpartisan ones say the same thing: Trumps the most reviled occupant of the Oval Office since the history of scientific polling.
After it came out-- and kept coming out-- that Roy Moore had sexually molested underage girls and was banned from the mall he used to go to to try to prey on them-- Republican senators, one by one, started withdrawing their endorsements of his campaign. Poor Trumpanzee. Everyone knows what an incompetent imbecile he is-- and Republicans in high positions increasingly are forced to bite their tongues to pretend otherwise. Some just can't do it any longer. Yesterday, BuzzFeed's Joseph Bernstein reported that last July National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster just couldn't take it any longer and let Oracle CEO Safra Catz know what he thinks of the orange pile of amorphous dung he works for.
