While the United States and its Kurdish proxies continue to fight for the besieged city of Raqqa, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the final stronghold of ISIS is the south eastern Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor.
The Syrian Arab Army has scored important victories in Deir ez-Zor governorate over the last month which has brings the city ever closer to liberation.
MOSCOW, (Sputnik) – Syrian armed forces and militia backed by the Russian Aerospace Forces on Sunday fully liberated the As Sukhnah town in the eastern Homs province from terrorists of the Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia), which gives a chance for the government forces to start an offensive and break the blockade of Deir ez-Zor, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Afghan officials today confirmed that US airstrikes targeted and killed at least 16 civilians, mostly women, and children, in the eastern Nangarhar Province, targeting the civilians as they tried to flee out of an ISIS-held district where heavy fighting has been ongoing.
The Syrian Arab Army continues to make strong gains in the last of two governoratse in Syria where ISIS maintains a palpable presence. With many ISIS fighters fleeing Raqqa and heading south-east to Dier-ez-Zor, the troubled region is rapidly becoming the last stand for the outlawed terrorist organisation ISIS.
