Now a very different kind of man – Iran’s Qods Force Commander Major-General Qasem Soleimani who played a central role in destroying ISIS – is dead too: But what is going to follow both of them is far, far worse.
The chain of events which has unfolded since late December has the potential the change the geopolitical shape of the Middle East for decades. Will Iraq successfully remove all foreign forces from their country? Is the region edging closer to war again?

Perhaps Syria’s nine years of agony is finally drawing to a close. After almost a decade of bloodshed hundreds of thousands have been slain. Hundreds of thousands more are maimed for life. At least 10% of the population has fled the country. Many of these will not choose to return. Those who have emigrated are often the youngest and the most educated. The brain drain has been particularly acute.

Since Washington’s double assassination of Iranian Quds Force leader, General Qasem Soleimani, and senior Iraqi PMU commander, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, on January 3rd, the White House and its mainstream media adjuncts have run an incessant propaganda campaign to try and demonize the Iranian military commander, calling him “an evil man” who had “the blood of Americans and Iranians on his hands,” as well as being “the world’s leading terrorist.”
