Yesterday, Guatemala, basically a small, impoverished and generally fascist-oriented American dependency in Central America, pleased Señor Trumpanzee by announcing it would move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Guatemala was one of the 7 pathetic "countries" that voted against the UN resolution denouncing Trump’s unilateral decision to recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital despite his threats of vengeance.

Many monuments, memorials and names of institutions across Canada celebrate our colonial and racist past. Calls for renaming buildings or pulling down statues are symbolic ways of reinterpreting that history, acknowledging mistakes and small steps towards reconciling with the victims of this country’s policies.
At its heart this process is about searching for the truth, a guiding principle that should be shared by both journalists and historians.

Fake News on Russia and Other Official Enemies

It has been amusing to watch the New York Times and other mainstream media outlets express their dismay over the rise and spread of “fake news.” These publications take it as an obvious truth that what they provide is straightforward, unbiased, fact-based reporting. They do offer such news, but they also provide a steady flow of their own varied forms of fake news, often by disseminating false or misleading information supplied to them by the national security state, other branches of government, and sites of corporate power.
