The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) doesn’t buy Monsanto’s claim that GM foods are ‘safe.’ In fact, the agency states, “several animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with GM food.” So why are we still being force-fed unlabeled GM foods by big multinational food companies?
The Minister of Agriculture, Water Affairs, and Fisheries has rejected a biotech appeal for the commercialization of GM potatoes throughout South Africa. This is part of the changing tide concerning the cultivation of GM crops, since Russia, Germany, France, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and more have all banned GM crops now.
The new EU regulations are allowing for almost a complete sweep of GMO banning throughout Europe. Bulgaria’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food has announced that they will extend a GMO-crop cultivation ban already in place to keep their image as a ‘clean, green’ country intact.
Monsanto likes to say that those of us against GMOs don’t use ‘real’ science to support claims that genetically modified crops are unsafe, but what about dirty money that infiltrates universities which supposedly do ‘good’ science on GM crops, soil, and the chemicals which are used to grow them?
What will it take to shut down Monsanto’s doors irrevocably? Likely it will be the same type of lawsuit that finally pulled the shades on the tobacco industry. If Big Tobacco eventually had to pay a $206 billion settlement over 25 years for lying about the health impacts of cigarettes, what do you think Monsanto will have to pay for lying about glyphosate’s carcinogenic nature for almost 40 years?
In a recent interview on Food Sleuth Radio, Dr. Hansen exposes Monsanto’s latest contrivance – that Bt toxic corn is ‘safe’ to eat. Dr. Hansen provides ‘clean’ science through Consumer Reports that has no private backing, and certainly none by the GM industry.
Hansen states that biotechnology allows you to move genetic traits from any possible source – viruses, bacteria, animals, humans, etc. and put them into plants. This is what allowed scientists to make Bt corn and other Bt crops, and then patent them.
An important precedence has been set by a recent ruling in French Court. Even after an appeals court heard a case which attested that a farmer was poisoned by accidentally inhaling the fumes of an herbicide, they still sided in favor of the farmer. Considering that the herbicide, though not its best seller, was made by Monsanto – this news is even more important.
First Kenyans demonstrated to try to get through to their government for ‘encroaching on constitutional rights’ and reversing a GM crop ban, and now a small group of farmers has taken their plea to the courts.
Russia has just announced a game-changing move in the fight against Monsanto’s GMOs, completely banning the use of genetically modified ingredients in any and all food production.
In other words, Russia just blazed way past the issue of GMO labeling and shut down the use of any and all GMOs that would have otherwise entered the food supply through the creation of packaged foods (and the cultivation of GMO crops).
Monsanto’s stock did even more poorly than analysts expected last quarter, with its stock taking another 15 percent nose-dive due to ‘a stronger dollar, and weak seed sales.’ The company is warning its investors that profits will not maintain previously suggested levels. Is it time to ditch Monsanto stock?
