Those who are unfriendly toward Russia keep on spreading the myth that Moscow is isolated on the world stage. The reality is quite different, but the idea of Russia as an outcast who has been expelled from the international community is something they badly want to be true. The fact that Russia is not a member of the G7 is usually used as an example to prove this point.

Britain’s Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson led the charge at the G7 for sanctions to be brought against Moscow to no avail, as Germany, Italy and the wider European Union rejected his request.

The whole rationale for British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson’s decision to cancel his visit to Moscow was that he was needed at the G7 summit in Lucca to push for a ‘united front’ against Russia.   US Secretary of State Tillerson would then go to Moscow as a single envoy on behalf of the whole G7, presenting the Russians with the united position Boris Johnson had forged.
