(ANTIMEDIA) Life on Earth would likely not exist without the geomagnetic field that encases the planet. The product of iron convection churning deep within the planet’s outer core, the magnetosphere creates a literal force field that prevents solar winds from breaking down our atmosphere and allowing radioactive particles to besiege the surface.
For the past several weeks, an environmentalist by the name of Rob Greenfield has been walking around New York City with 42 pounds of trash and counting strapped to his body. [1]
Normally, Greenfield is as friendly to the earth as he possibly can be. But for one month, he has committed to behaving like the average American and generating about 4.5 pounds of trash per day.
A new study from researchers at Princeton University and published in Science has confirmed that the earth is losing oxygen. According to their data, over the past 800,000 years, the earth has lost 0.07% of its oxygen. This isn’t enough to cause harm to life, though scientists are still wondering why this drop occurred.

Earthquakes used to be more of a rarity in Oklahoma. An average of 2 quakes typically shook the state in a year’s time. But that was long ago. Now, the ground rock Oklahomans’ world hundreds of times a year.
In 2014, 585 quakes of a magnitude 3.0 or larger rattled Oklahoma – 3 times the number that rocked California. So far this year, 600 quakes have rattled the area, with the largest being a 4.5 striking the small town of Crescent. Scientists point to oil and gas drilling as the cause. [1]
