The US dollar has dipped against major currencies, including those of developing countries, in recent weeks leading many analysts to predict a return of investments to emerging markets.
Fears of the the US Federal Reserve’s monetary tightening and its effects on these markets have eased in the past year as countries such as Russia, India, Mexico and Brazil institute financial reforms which have helped them boost exports and lower imports.

Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of Parliament, will today vote on yet more corruption charges against President Michel Temer.
In early July, the rapporteur for a Brazilian lower house committee examining a corruption charge against Temer recommended that the body vote to put him on trial.

The 7th Meeting of the BRICS Trade Ministers is held in Shanghai, east China, Aug. 1, 2017 [Xinhua]Trade ministers from the Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are discussing trade facilitation, economic and technological cooperation, and the multilateral trade system at a two-day annual meeting that began on Tuesday in Shanghai.
The BRICS ministers are looking at boosting cooperation of the bloc within the WTO and preparation for the 11th Ministerial Conference in December.
On Tuesday, Chinese Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan warned against trade favouritism.

Germany fires back at US over new Russia sanctions

German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said on Monday he hopes US President Donald Trump will finally opt not to sign the bill on further anti-Russian sanctions in its current edition.

He added that it was Beijing’s unwavering position that Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity be maintained.

The release of the Tourism 2016 report by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) this week showed that although there was a strong rebound in last year due to the weak rand, which made a holiday in South Africa very cheap for an overseas tourist, the country was still suffering from the imposition of more stringent visa requirements.

Russia, US agree to Syria ceasefire amid Putin-Trump meeting

It was meant to last for half an hour but the first face-to-face meaning between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump last for more than two hours.
In a much anticipated meeting which US media had speculated would be a charged, high-stakes face-to-face, the two leaders exchanged pleasantries as if they were two old friends trying to work out a difference between them.
