Florida Police Department Sued for Beating Man after High Speed Chase

The Boynton Beach Police Department in South Florida is being sued amidst claims several of their officers brutally beat a man in August 2014 after a high speed chase.
The plaintiff, Byron Harris, alleges in the suit that he was severely beaten and that Boynton Beach Police Chief Jeffrey Katz wanted to get rid of the helicopter video that captured the beat down.
The lawsuit was filed this week. All charges against Harris were dismissed once prosecutors learned of the beating.

Alaska State Troopers Take Four Months to Admit They Did Not Have Right to Seize Reporter’s Memory Card

Back in September, an Alaska state trooper pulled over a newspaper reporter for the sole purpose of seizing his memory card from his camera.
The photographer, after all, had just taken photos of other troopers arresting a suspect in a shooting.
And that, apparently, was enough for Sergeant Michael Ingram to claim he needed the photos as “evidence.”

Washington Cops Allow Drunk Deputy to Drive Home, Claiming “No Probable Cause” to Arrest, Even Though Body Cam Shows Plenty of Probable Cause

A Washington cop received a call about a drunk man sitting in his jeep in a movie parking lot, only to discover that he was a local deputy, so she offered him a ride home, which he refused.
Poulsbo police officer Danielle Branes then left, telling theater employees to keep an eye on him in case he decided to drive.
Almost two hours later, Kitsap County Sheriff Sergeant Jim Porter drove home anyway, a five-mile drive, but then was unable to step out of his jeep.

Miami Jail Guard Receives Probation for Throwing Scalding Water on Inmate

A Miami jail guard who threw a cup of scalding water on an inmate, leaving him with second-degree burns pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery today.
Charlise Daniels-Wadley, who agreed to resign from her position, received one year of probation and will be required to do 50 hours of community service.
The incident took place in 2012 after Daniels-Wadley got into an argument with inmate Joshua Wiggins, who was released from prison last month after serving two years for cocaine trafficking.

Chicago Cop Pleads Not Guilty in Laquan McDonald Shooting

Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke pleaded not guilty to the 2014 murder of Laquan McDonald on Tuesday.
Although McDonald had a knife during the shooting, he was deviating away from Van Dyke, who was about 20 to 25 feet away.
The Chicago cop shot the young man 16 times in October 2014, but he was not even criminally charged until 13 months later.
And only because the dash cam video took 13 months to be released to the public.
Van Dyke was the only officer on scene to fire his gun.

Texas Cop With History of Complaints Suspended After Body Cam Captures Him Kneeing Suspect in Groin

An aggressive Texas cop with a history of complaints and a reputation for not caring about those complaints was placed on paid leave after he was caught on camera kneeing a handcuffed man in the groin.
San Juan police officer Juan Pablo Galindo was captured by his colleague’s body cam on the evening of December 14.
According to the Texas news site, Advance News Journal:

Chicago Police Admit They “Accidentally” Shot and Killed Woman While Trying to Shoot and Kill Teen for “Lunging”

Adding to tensions that have reached a boiling point in the Windy City, Chicago police admitted they “accidentally” shot and killed a 55-year-old woman while trying to kill a 19-year-old man early Saturday morning.
But police expressed their “deepest condolences” to the family of Bettie Jones, explaining they had to kill Quintonio LeGrier because he had come charging at them with a baseball bat, making them fear for their lives.
And she just happened to be in the way.

NYPD “Karate Cop” Arrested After Shooting Mother of His Child

A New York City police sergeant nicknamed the “Karate Cop” was arrested this week after he was accused of shooting the mother of his child in the neck during a domestic spat.
Jose Guerrero, 49, was charge with reckless endangerment and second-degree assault. He was released on bail and is scheduled for a following court hearing in January.
Guerrero’s arrest took place on Wednesday evening after the 39-year-old woman was admitted to a Yonkers emergency room at St. John’s hospital.
