Who was the first active professional male athlete in a major American sport to come out? Conventional wisdom would point to NBA player Jason Collins, who has played for the Celtics, the Hawks, Timberwolves, Grizzlies, NJ Nets and, most recently, the Wizards and apparently not to soon be on the Detroit Pistons.
