It did not take long, however, for the neocons in the Bush administration to start insinuating that the anthrax scare was tied to their two favourite boogeymen: Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden.

The blatant lies told about the origin and composition of the anthrax was quickly exposed as just that: blatant lies. Soon even the US government itself had to admit that the anthrax came from within the bowels of its own bioweapons program.

Defense officials say that the Pentagon will announce plans to place a moratorium on all operations at 9 biodefense labs with viruses, toxins, and bacteria such as anthrax. The move comes after officials found that policies and procedures at the labs are subpar. [1]
It’s unclear how long the labs will halt their work, the officials said. The freeze means “nobody is shipping anything,” one official said. Investigators looking into the anthrax lapses have determined that there is much more work to be done. It is not known how long the moratoriums will last.
A gross violation of human rights gives rise to a set of state obligations, including that of providing remedies to the victims. Among such remedies is the duty to establish the true circumstances surrounding the violation and ensuring the identification and punishment of those responsible for it. The mass killings of 9/11 were, apart of being a huge crime, also a gross violation of the right to life of approximately 3,000 people. Yet legal literature has not dealt with this event from that perspective.
