Even Justin Trudeau and Angela Merkel both made remarks pointing at the fact that is just as true for their countries as Trump’s are for America: We need to take care of our own.

Of all the political maxims that Donald Trump has upended since he launched his presidential campaign with a ride down a gilded escalator, perhaps none is more symbolic than the slogan that has come to define his presidency: America First.
For Trump, these words are nothing so much as an expression of aggressive machismo, providing the ideological underpinning to a range of retrograde policy approaches from trade to immigration.
Even as Britain and parts of Europe – though not it should be stressed the rest of the world – have been distracted by the hysteria about the Skripal case flooding out of London, far more important events have been happening across the Atlantic.
President Trump’s position becoming stronger
Firstly, President Trump’s political position is beginning to look significantly stronger with the decision of the House Intelligence Committee to close down its Russiagate investigation and to report that there was no collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump won over many American voters by his promise to put “America First.” Though this catchphrase was thought – at the time — to imply a populist message of putting the American people first, Trump has largely failed to deliver on his promises to roll back the corporate welfare state and instead invest in everyday Americans — as evidenced by his tax reform bill, the only legislative “victory” of his young presidency.
