Many hoped that the Obama administration would reschedule marijuana from a Schedule I substance to a Schedule II substance this year, but no such luck. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) also announced on August 11 that marijuana would remain illegal under federal law. Other Schedule I substances include heroin, LSD, peyote, ecstasy, quaaludes, and bath salts, among others. [1]
Earlier this month, a 14-month-old baby suffering from severe malnutrition and weighing what a 3-month-old infant should weigh was rushed to a Milan hospital by his grandparents. The child’s parents fed him a vegan diet without proper supplementation.
On March 8, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) voted to become the first school district of its size to require hormone- and antibiotic-free chicken in its school meals. More than 732,800 students are enrolled at LAUSD’s 1.274 schools.
The full changes go into effect in fall 2017.
