Want to see a right-wing nut's head explode?Big states often have big chunks of territory left over after the congressional districts are drawn, diverse counties and parts of counties that have nothing necessarily in common with each other but don'tfitinto the other districts. In California, the massive 8th district is like that.
The Columbus, Ohio congressional district is safely blue. Trump wasn't even able to get 30% of the vote in 2016 and the PVI is D+19. It's the kind of district Democrats should be looking to for strong progressive leadership from bold thought-leaders. Instead, the incumbent there, Joyce Beatty, is a longtime crooked political hack and careerist.
Who needs Collin Allred in Congress. The suburban district has been turning blue and he beat a really good progressive who could have been in that seat. Allred, who joined the New Dems, has earned an "F" from ProgressivePunch and he's earned himself a pretty putrid record already. There are 28 Democrats who still haven't signed on as a co-sponsor of the assault weapons sales ban.

Blue America's newest endorsee is Jason Butler, the progressive candidate taking on reactionary Trump enabler George Holding in a North Carolina red district (NC-02) that has started trending purple. Last cycle, Holding only eked out a bare 51.3% win-- in a district where Obama lost both times and where Trump beat Hillary by over 10 points!
I had dinner with a member of Pelosi's leadership team this week to talk about 2020 House candidates. Who was the first candidate the Member wanted to talk about? Audrey Denney. So I had a real shock ready. Chico, up in Butte County, isn't exactly a bustling metropolis. The population is about 94,776, not exactly the kind of place presidential candidates are flocking to. But it's the biggest city in CA-01, the predominantly rural northeast California congressional district where Denney is running to replace Trump enabler Doug LaMalfa.
Over the past two weeks I've talked to 7 new candidates running for Congress. One doesn't support Medicare-for-All, the Green New Deal, banning assault weapons or even raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour and I told her she was calling the wrong organization and to try the DCCC or EMILY's List. The others are being vetted. The easiest candidate to endorse though was Jason Butler, running in North Carolina’s 2nd district.
Who remembers MTV's The Real World, one of the first "reality" shows? It started running in 1992 and, after 33 seasons, finally died in 2017. Sean Duffy, pretending to be a lumberjack, was on Season 6, in the Boston season. He played role of the season's Republican dipshit, often arguing with a liberal black woman, Kameelah Phillips, who he called a bitch in episode 4 and a racist who he compared to Hitler in episode 21. After the show was filmed Duffy met another conservative, Rachel Campos and married her. He went to law school and now they're about to have their 9th child.
Rachel Ventura is the progressive Democrat challenging New Dem, Bill Foster in Illinois’ 11th congressional district. Ventura currently serves on the Will County Board, representing swing district #9. To win her 2018 campaign, she challenged the local Democratic establishment, was outspent 3:1 and still dominated the 5-candidate primary field by running a well-organized grassroots campaign.
Kansas Republican Steve Watkins-- That body language indicates a guy who would get up to no good-- fast... like sending out dick shotsNot counting Kansas City, KS-02 is all of eastern Kansas, from the border with Nebraska in the north to the border with Oklahoma in the south. The district's entire eastern border is Missouri.
