Florida, the ultimate swing state, has played a decisive role in too many presidential elections. Every single vote counts in any statewide election there. In 2018, Republican Ron DeSantis beat Democrat Andrew Gillum 49.6% to 49.2% in the gubernatorial race and Rick Scott beat Bill Nelson (basically a walking corpse) 50.1% to 49.9% in the Senate election. Two years earlier, Trump had beaten Hillary 49.0% to 47.8%.
At this point I don't know anyone-- aside from myself-- who's still refusing to vote for Biden. No one I know-- not one person-- likes Biden or thinks he'll make a good president. Few expect him to even be a mediocre president. Most everyone I know expects him to be one of the worst... but not as bad as Trump, who is the worst... and beyond.
Trump isn't dead yet and hasn't used his COVID diagnosis as an excuse for backing out of the race. He insists otherwise, but he was hurt badly by Tuesday's debate. Cone Of Shame by Nancy Ohanian Nielsen reported that 27.3 million people watched Tuesday’s shitshow on the 4 broadcast networks, about a 35% drop-off from the 45 million who watched first debate of 2016 on those networks. From what I'm hearing and reading, people tended to tune in and become so horrified by Trump's shenanigans that they tuned out pretty quickly. Trump was just plain terrible; Biden wasn't particularly good.
The other day someone wrote a comment here about how the country is ready to explode in Civil War and all that's needed is a Ft Sumter incident. I don't agree but some kind of a half-assed insurrection would be a fitting and predictable denouement for the illegitimate, completely divisive Trump regime.
Ulysses S. Grant was getting ready to leave the White House in 1876, when America experienced one of its most divisive presidential elections in history-- Samuel Tilden (D) vs Rutherford B. Hayes (R). There was an historically humongous turnout and Tilden won-- 4,288,546 (50.9%) to 4,034,311 (47.9%). But then it got sticky.
A new PBS-NPR poll by Marist finds the Donald down by 10 points nationally-- 52% to 42%. Trump's overall disapproval number is a dismal 53%.
North Carolina’s 11th district on the western edge of the state includes the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains, Great Smoky Mountains National Park and some of the most beautiful forests, waterfalls and vistas in the country. It also includes Asheville, a small, artsy, craft beer-loving liberal city that anchors this district … but hardly defines it. Asheville and some of Buncombe County are a bright blue dot in a sea of deep red conservative voters.

Rose's district ends at the corner of Avenue P and E 15th Street and I lived 2 blocks away on 17th between Avenues O and P. It was once the most liberal district in America. Now it's paired with Staten Island and Bay Ridge to make a swing district that's only been represented by a Republican or a Blue Dog from the Republican wing of the Democratic Party, right now Max Rose.He's got a tough Republican challenger and I hope she beats him. His new ad isn't about her.
