The presidents of Russia, Iran and Turkey will meet in Istanbul on April 4 to agree additional approaches to ways of promoting a settlement in Syria on the basis of resolutions by the international community, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after talks with his Turkish and Iranian counterparts in Astana."It has been agreed that the presidents of Russia, Iran and Turkey will gather for a summit meeting to agree on more approaches to promoting the settlement principles that were approved by the UN Security Council and actively supported by the Astana process," he said.
Iranian President Hassan Rohani, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet on April 4 in Ankara in a summit of the three countries sponsoring a series of Syrian peace talks.As announced earlier, the presidents of three countries of Iran, Russia, and Turkey will have another trilateral summit with the issue of Syrian crisis in focus on April 4. The Kremlin said on April 2 that bilateral trade and economic cooperation would be discussed, along with the implementation of "joint strategic projects, in particular in the energy sector."It said the two leaders were expected to officially launch the first unit of Turkey's Akkuyu nuclear power station through a teleconference.In April 2015, Russian state nuclear energy conglomerate Rosatom began construction of the four-unit plant with an estimated cost of $20 billion.Akkuyu is Turkey's first nuclear power station on the Mediterranean, part of the hydrocarbon-poor state's drive to attain greater energy self-sufficiency.The Kremlin said that Putin and Erdogan also planned to discuss "regional and international issues, including the joint fight against terrorism and the situation in Syria," ahead of a trilateral meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rohani in Ankara on April 4.
